Frigid temperatures froze beach grass across an Oregon coastline, making it look like something out of a sci-fi movie.

The “surreal” scene was captured in photos on Jan. 14 at Seaside Beach, and they show the European beach grass frozen into icy spikes.

Seaside Aquarium worker Tiffany Boothe snapped the photos and said this kind of event doesn’t happen all the time.

The area experienced one of the largest freezes she’s seen in awhile, she told McClatchy News.

Winter storms have hit the Pacific Northwest in the past week, bringing freezing rain, snow, frigid temperatures and a lot of ice.

“It was very slick even on the beach as all of the sand had a layer of ice on it, as well as the dunes and the European dune grass,” she said.

“While treacherous and cold, it was quite beautiful,” Boothe said.

Social media users had plenty to say about the ice studded beach.

The beach is covered with evil death spikes, got it,” one person commented on Facebook.

“I was thinking it looked like bullets trying to escape water,” another person wrote.

“Looks like a sci fi film. Otherworldly,” someone else said.
