Puzzling home for sale was built around climbable feature in Utah. But don’t climb it
In the 2001 fantasy comedy “Shrek,” the lovable sidekick Donkey is walking along, annoying Shrek when he randomly stops to admire — of all things — a big rock.
“It’s amazing what you’ve done with such a modest budget,” he says, voiced by Eddie Murphy. “I like that boulder. That is a nice boulder.”
That just happens to be a perfect way to describe the enormous feature this house in Utah revolves around.
The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom house is listed for $1.9 million in St. George and appears to be built around a large mountain boulder that can be seen in the indoor pool area. Judging by its massive size and proximity to the water, it wouldn’t be a wise choice to scale the thing — unless you have a death wish.
“(The) main residence encompasses an enormous boulder partially surrounded by a pristine indoor pool and spa to note ,” the listing on Zillow.com says. “Just one of its many outstanding features.”
The 8,245-square-foot interior seems to have an almost maze-like layout, with wood panels curving, carpeted conversation pits sneaking up and railings peering down. It seems to be an architectural dream ripped from an earlier era, with its combination of wood, brick, iron and glass.
And right smack dab in the middle? Gigantor, the pool rock.
There are other notable features in and around the home, including:
Guest house
Nine-car garage
Granite countertops
Composite shake roof
St. George is about a 120-mile drive northeast from Las Vegas.
