Crabbers found the body of a missing clammer days after he vanished in an Oregon bay, deputies said.

The 54-year-old man from New Mexico was clamming with a woman April 4 on a sandbar at Netarts Bay, the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

They tried to swim back to the shoreline when they realized the tide was rising, deputies said.

But the man never made it to the shore.

Deputies said the woman last saw him in neck-deep water before he disappeared in the water.

At the time, he was wearing waterproof waders, deputies said.

Rescuers searched in the water and the shoreline for the missing man, but they couldn’t find him.

Crabbers discovered the man’s body partially in the water at the same bay at about 5:30 p.m. on April 6, deputies said. He was wearing waist-high waders, yellow gloves and a jacket.

Deputies said his injuries were not suspicious.

His family has been notified, but deputies did not release his name.

Netarts Bay is about an 80-mile drive southwest from Portland.
