A Texas man was taken into custody after authorities say he called 911 reporting that he shot and killed his wife.

Around 10:30 a.m. on May 29, deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting at a home in San Antonio, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a news conference streamed on Facebook.

When officials arrived, they found the woman lying on the floor of the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Salazar. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Salazar said.

The man in his 60s told authorities he accidentally shot his wife.

“At this point we don’t believe that to be the case, quite frankly,” Salazar said.

The man was taken into custody for questioning.

Salazar said authorities were called to the home in December when the woman requested their presence while she left the residence.

Officials did not give any details on what led up to the shooting or why they do not believe it was accidental.

“From what we’re seeing on scene, it just doesn’t appear that way,” Salazar said. “Our hope is that he’ll tell us exactly what it is that happened, but quite frankly, at this point we’re heading toward a charge of, at the very least, murder.”

Salazar said they are considering the case a domestic violence-related homicide.

The identities of the man and woman were not released.
