This monster 12-foot alligator wasn’t wrangled or trapped before it was removed from a ditch near a populated area.

Instead, Texas officials used an unconventional way to get the creature away from the populated area.

Video shows Mont Belvieu officials using a grapple truck on June 3 to pick up the gator and place it into the back of the vehicle.

City officials told McClatchy News that the alligator had been in the shallow ditch for a short period of time, though they could not give an exact estimate.

The ditch was along a main road on the east side of the town, officials said. With a “highly utilized sidewalk” and developing neighborhood nearby, the creature posed a threat to the public, officials said.

Once the gator was removed from the ditch, it was transferred to the Texas game warden, Mont Belvieu officials said.

Mont Belvieu is about a 30-mile drive east of Houston.
