Group shoots at truck passengers, chases them to hospital after crash, Texas cops say
A Texas hospital went into lockdown after a crash between a car and a truck led to a chase, a fight, then a shooting, police told news outlets.
The car and truck crashed at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, Houston police told KTRK.
The truck rear-ended the car and quickly drove away, but the car followed and eventually caught up to the truck, which had stopped at a gas station, police told the news outlet. Soon, police say family members of the truck’s driver showed up to the scene and a fight broke out with the occupants of the car.
Multiple people from the car opened fire at the other group, hitting a truck passenger in the head, police told KPRC. The truck fled again but the car continued to chase, police said.
Officials say the car pursued the family all the way to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, where the truck crashed, the station reported.
Someone in the car fired one more shot at the truck before driving away, investigators said, KHOU reported. A state trooper, who was providing security, put the hospital in lockdown, according to officials.
The passenger who was shot in the head was reported in critical condition, according to the station.
One of the truck passengers was detained, and police are searching for the suspected shooters, KPRC reported.
Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 713-884-3131.
