Burglary suspect gets ‘butt whipped’ by victim twice his age, Florida sheriff says

A man was attacked outside his home when he challenged an accused car burglar, but it was the much younger suspect who got clobbered, Florida investigators say.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey says the trouncing occurred Thursday, June 27, at a home in Micco, where the 29-year-old suspect made the mistake of underestimating the victim. Micco is about an 85-mile drive southeast from Orlando.

“Deputies arrived on scene and were able to quickly detain (the suspect), who was seemingly having a tough time getting up off of the ground, after getting his butt whipped by a 66-year-old man,” Ivey said in a June 28 news release.

“That’s right (he) got manhandled by a 66-year-old man who thankfully only required brief medical treatment and was left without any serious injuries.”

Investigators say the brawl began when the victim went to investigate suspicious noises and spotted a man attempting to break into his car, officials said.

The victim called 911, then went outside to confront the suspect, which set off the fight.

“He was attacked and hit in the head before being thrown to the ground,” the sheriff said. “Despite then being kicked in the head ... the victim was able to defend himself and hit (the suspect), causing him to fall back, so that (the victim) could get away.”

The suspect, who lives in Brevard County, was taken to a medical facility to be checked for injuries, then charged with felony burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and felony battery on a person over age 65, officials said.
