A cat in Ohio is proving that patience — and love — can change even the most bitey domestic animals into cuddle bugs.

Meet Chonkey Kong, a cat that certainly measures up to his sassy name at the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society, a facility that has managed to do the impossible with the very angry little guy, an August Facebook post said.

“Chonkey came to the shelter as a very unsocialized, stray tomcat,” the post said.

“Let’s just say he was not initially happy about receiving care from us. He was unable to be handled, and his defensive nature made even our most experienced staff uneasy. Chonkey was quickly made a part of our socialization program and received a lot of patient attention, enrichment and encouragement.”

It didn’t take that long for Chonkey to turn his world around with the help of a shelter program and some kind shelter folks. Of course, going under the knife also aided in his personality change.

“After being neutered and being a part of the program for a few months, Chonkey Kong has transformed into a purring machine that loves attention! We are thrilled with his progress and he is now available for adoption.”

Chonkey is around 8 years old and his likes include:

  • Other cats

  • Treats

  • Pets

  • Meowing

Chonkey’s dislikes:

  • Small children

“Chonkey is still a little scraggly (much improved from his arrival), but we are sure he’ll have a beauty transformation when he is loved in a home,” the post continued.

“In any other shelter, it is very likely that Chonkey would have been euthanized for his temperament. We are so proud of him for learning to trust humans and all the nice things they can offer him. Sometimes, the most fearful cats turn out to be the sweetest babies.”

For more information on Chonkey, visit the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society website.

The shelter is located in Lima, which is about a 90-mile drive northwest of Columbus.
