Two “sweet” senior dogs need a new home after their loving owner fell sick and couldn’t keep them.

Canine brothers Frank and Jessie, both age 12, are temporarily living in North Carolina. The two have a tight bond and must be adopted into the same home, a South Carolina-based animal rescue said.

“As seniors they require a gentle environment that can cater to their evolving health and provide the companionship they so deeply cherish,” Megan Davis, director of Black Tie Boston Rescue, told McClatchy News in an Aug. 7 email. “They thrive on routine and the comfort of knowing they are together, and we would never dream of separating them.”

The rescue — based in the Myrtle Beach-area community of Little River — said the “lifelong companions” are living in a Charlotte foster home. Though the organization mainly focuses on Boston Terriers, it couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help the pug brothers in June.

“We never turn away from a true need and these brothers NEEDED us,” Davis said. “Their owner was very ill and had become bed-ridden and unable to care for these sweet old guys. They were showing their age, had poor breathing and pressure sores BUT, they were extremely loving and extremely bonded!”

The dogs often can be seen following each other. Frank has dry eyes and is “visually impaired but sticks right with his brother and has no trouble,” the rescue wrote in Facebook posts.

“Their days are filled with shared naps, synchronized antics, and an unwavering mutual affection that speaks volumes about their unique connection,” Davis said. “Their foster mom jokes that if synchronized sleeping was an Olympic sport, they would get the gold!”

The “adorable couch potatoes” also love to eat snacks and receive human affection. But there are some differences between the 24-pound brothers. Jessie is louder and more playful than Frank.

“Jessie is willing to earn his keep as your personal security guard,” the rescue wrote. “He will stand guard while you are in the shower and if you are in the restroom, though, he has been caught sleeping on the job a few times.”

As of Aug. 8, the rescue’s website listed the “sweet and chill” pups as available for adoption. More details about the organization’s adoption process can be found at bostonrescueteam.com.

“Their dependence on each other is profound and heartwarming,” Davis said. “When one is excited, the other mirrors that joy. When one needs comfort, the other is right there, offering solace.”
