Dad gives 4-month-old gasoline to drink in attempt to kill baby, Texas cops say
A dad attempted to kill his 4-month-old child by giving them gasoline to drink, Texas police said.
Emergency services arrived at the Paris home on Aug. 10 to find that the infant had been “intentionally” given the gasoline, according to an Aug. 12 news release by police.
The 24-year-old dad ran from the scene, police said, but was followed by officers.
When officers arrested him, the dad told police he gave the baby gasoline to try and kill them, according to police.
The man was charged with attempted capital murder and evading arrest, according to jail records. His bond is set at $255,000.
McClatchy News is not identifying the father to protect the identity of the child.
The child was taken to the Paris Regional Medical Center, then transferred to a facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to police.
The infant’s condition is unknown.
Police are continuing to investigate.
Paris is about a 100-mile drive northeast of Dallas.
