A 60-year-old woman playing lottery games on her phone took a chance on the Michigan Jackpot game.

“I decided to give it a try and after I played a couple of tickets, I hit the jackpot!” she told Michigan lottery officials. “I was so anxious when I won.”

She feared her $264,963 prize would disappear.

The Kent County woman woke up the next morning and immediately checked to see if the prize stayed in her lottery account overnight.

When she realized she had indeed hit the jackpot, she shared the good news with her husband.

Now, the woman wants to share her winnings with her family and invest in her business. She said the prize is a “financial relief.”

“I am so happy and grateful to have won this prize, and I am going to pay it forward,” she told officials.

Kent County is about an 11-mile drive northeast from downtown Grand Rapids.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
