Lottery player rushes home to tell wife of big win. ‘His dream was now a reality’
A Maryland man, who has played lottery games for more than two decades, headed to a convenience store after work to buy some tickets.
He waited until the next morning and checked his tickets using the Maryland Lottery app, lottery officials said in an Oct. 17 news release.
“To his surprise,” a message popped on screen surrounded by confetti: “See retailer,” lottery officials said.
While he was unsure of the exact amount, he “knew he had won a substantial amount,” lottery officials said.
The man trekked back to the Baltimore convenience store and asked the manager to check his Bonus Match 5 ticket, lottery officials said.
“Then she said, ‘Congratulations,’” the man told lottery officials.
Upon learning he had won the game’s top prize of $50,000, the man rushed home to share the news with his wife, lottery officials said.
“He remained calm, but felt a jolt of excitement once the news that his dream was now a reality settled in,” lottery officials said.
The man told lottery officials he plans to spend his winnings paying off his car and a few other bills, while he will tuck rest away in savings.
