An 81-year-old man died while on a duck hunting trip in the wetlands near a Utah lake, deputies say.

Kenneth Hill was duck hunting with a 70-year-old man and his dog in the Duck Marshes of the Great Salt Lake the evening of Oct. 22, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a Oct. 24 news release.

While the pair “were out of the boat retrieving duck decoys,” Hill’s hunting partner noticed he was face down in the water, deputies said.

He brought Hill to a nearby island and started CPR, according to deputies.

Deputies said they got a call about a possible drowning, and multiple agencies responded.

Rescuers found the men and recovered the boat with the dog, deputies said.

Hill was pronounced dead on scene, while the other hunter received medical care on site, deputies said.

Deputies said they returned the dog and boat to Hill’s family.

An investigation is ongoing, according to deputies.
