School bus hits and kills 10-year-old girl, Missouri cops say. ‘Community is grieving’
A community is in shock after a school bus struck a 10-year-old girl, killing her, Missouri police said.
As children in O’Fallon left school for the day on Nov. 7, officers rushed to the intersection where the 10-year-old was hit and died from her injuries, police said in a Nov. 8 Facebook post.
“Tonight our community is grieving,” Fort Zumwalt School District Superintendent Paul Meyers said in a Nov. 7 Facebook post. “A family lost a child, a school lost a student and our entire community feels this tremendous loss.”
O’Fallon police said the accident is under the investigation and the school bus driver is cooperating with the process.
“At a time like this, there is no way to express the grief we all are feeling,” Meyers said.
Officials have not released the girl’s name as of Nov. 8.
“This is a close-knit community really. Oh, my gosh. I just couldn’t imagine that happened,” neighbor Mary Ann Schmitt told KSDK.
O’Fallon is about a 30-mile drive northwest from downtown St. Louis.
