Lottery player uses ages for Powerball numbers in Maryland. Then came a ‘total shock’
A lottery player won big after using new numbers on a Powerball ticket, Maryland officials said.
The lucky winner used a combination of the ages of her family’s children, siblings, and a grandchild for her Powerball ticket that was proven to be worth $50,000 during the Oct. 19 drawing, according to a Nov. 20 news release by the Maryland Lottery.
The Charles County woman was in “total shock” after scanning the ticket she’d had for more than a month, officials said.
Eventually, she scanned it and had to have the store clerk verify her win, the release said.
“I can’t believe I won using all of their ages,” the woman told lotto officials.
The woman plans to use the money to pay her bills but made it known that she isn’t finished playing the lottery as she wants to one day secure the full jackpot, lottery officials said.
“This is the first year that I have tried these numbers. I’m not sure if I will change them or keep playing the same numbers for next year,” the winner said in the release.
Charles County is about a 70-mile drive southwest of Baltimore.
