Man gets ‘unbelievable’ voicemail from lottery headquarters and listens to it 12 times
A voicemail from an unknown number left a 42-year-old Michigan man “stunned”.
The caller was from the Michigan Lottery headquarters telling the player from Macomb County that he won big in a random drawing on Oct. 29.
The “second chance game” the man played by scanning non-winning tickets won him $100,000.
“I must have listened to (the voicemail) at least 12 times because I was so stunned,” the lucky winner told lottery officials in a Nov. 21 news release.
He said he had a “hard time believing it was real,” and it took listening to the voicemail multiple times, confirming that the phone number belonged to Michigan Lottery officials and finding an email about his prize for the winner to believe the $100,000 was actually his, he said.
“It’s hard to explain the feeling of winning $100,000. You always dream of sitting in this room at the Lottery headquarters receiving a big check, so it’s pretty unbelievable to actually be here,” he said.
He plans to use his winnings to pay bills and purchase furniture for his new home.
Macomb County is about a 40-mile drive northeast from downtown Detroit.
