A man out for a day of hunting in Upstate South Carolina took a long shot in the state lottery and scored big game.

The hunter, who was not identified, was driving north of Anderson when he pulled into a rural 7-Eleven on Liberty Highway and got a $10 Grand Stacks ticket, S.C. Education Lottery officials said in a Nov. 21 news release.

Odds of winning one of the four top prizes of $500,000 in the game are 1 in 1,440,000, so the man conceded he was in disbelief when that appeared on the scratch-off ticket.

“I don’t have any plans for the prize money yet,” the hunter told lottery officials during a check presentation. “Me and the wife are going to decide that together.”

It’s the kind of luck hunters would likely see as a good omen, but lottery officials didn’t say whether the man continued with his plans or opted to celebrate in a more traditional way.

The 7-Eleven got a $5,000 commission for selling the winning ticket, officials said.

Anderson is about a 120-mile drive northwest from Columbia.
