A lucky gambler won the biggest jackpot prize ever recorded at a Michigan casino.

Now, the slot machine player is a millionaire.

The gambler sat at a Dragon Link machine Nov. 21 at MGM Grand Detroit, the casino said in a news release.

The player placed a bet, hit spin and watched as the symbols flashed across the screen until a jackpot message appeared showing a $1,271,645 win, the casino said.

It’s the largest amount anyone has won at the casino since it opened in 1999, the casino said.

The previous record was set in 2008, when a player won $1,127,425.

“This monumental win adds to $268,156,517 in jackpots given out in 2024 at MGM Grand Detroit and the more than $18 million given out in November,” the casino said in the release.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
