12-year-old boy takes grandpa’s car on 160-mile joyride in Washington, deputies say
A 12-year-old boy stole his grandpa’s car and took it on a 160-mile joyride in Washington, deputies said.
The boy was reported with the vehicle Nov. 27 in Issaquah, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Police told Grant County deputies the boy had a connection to Moses Lake and may be headed that way.
And that happened to be the case.
Deputies spotted the vehicle at about 10:20 a.m. in the Larson community.
But the boy didn’t stop for deputies, authorities said.
He fled until deputies said they used a PIT maneuver to stop the car.
A PIT maneuver, precision immobilization technique, is a tool law enforcement uses to stop vehicle pursuits by hitting the rear of the vehicle so it spins and comes to a stop.
The boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and felony eluding.
There were no injuries and the vehicle had minimal damage, deputies said.
Moses Lake is about a 160-mile drive southeast from Issaquah.
