Co-workers beat Jimmy John’s employee in fight about petting service dog, PA cops say
A fight about petting a co-worker’s service dog led to a Jimmy John’s employee being “brutally beaten” and hospitalized, Pennsylvania police said.
Two employees, 33-year-old Tyree Blue-Murphy and 31-year-old Damon Robinson, at the downtown Pittsburgh sandwich shop were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy following the Dec. 16 attack, police told McClatchy News.
McClatchy News reached out to Jimmy John’s for comment on Dec. 18 but did not immediately receive a response.
The argument about the service dog started between one employee and Blue-Murphy, according to the criminal complaint. Blue-Murphy started to hit and kick the victim as the fight escalated, police said.
Robinson told police that he tried to break up the fight but was then struck where he had a healing gunshot wound, police said. He became “enraged” and started to stomp on the employee, according to court documents.
During the attack, Robinson also struck the employee with a bicycle tire, the complaint said.
The man was lying “defenseless on the ground being beaten after the altercation,” police said.
The beating caused severe injuries, and the employee was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
The man is now in stable condition but is still intubated, police said. He suffered head trauma and was bleeding from his brain, officers said.
