Packages kept vanishing in Arizona, cops say. Now 4 UPS workers arrested
Four employees at a UPS warehouse in Arizona were arrested after an investigation “into a large-scale theft operation,” police said.
The investigation started when UPS did its own review of fraud and theft at a Mesa warehouse, the Mesa Police Department said in a Dec. 19 news release.
A UPS security supervisor led the inquiry, “identifying irregularities with packages received from vendors but not delivered to their final destinations,” police said.
UPS found evidence pointing to employees being involved, police said.
A UPS spokesperson said in a Dec. 19 email to McClatchy News that the company doesn’t comment on active investigations.
Four warehouse workers, ranging in age from 31 to 34, were arrested on Dec. 17, police said. All four are accused of theft greater than $10,000, and two also are accused of fraudulent schemes and artifices, according to police.
Citing court records, the Arizona Republic reported that the men’s plan involved taking items from the shipping line and switching in one of their own addresses.
