A Utah family is mourning after a new mom died a little more than a week after giving birth to twins.

Morgan Hughes, 22, experienced complications after delivering her twins on Dec. 19, according to family members and news reports.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, her brother-in-law Brigham Hughes wrote that “postpartum complications with her heart proved to be too much, and she left us peacefully around noon” on Dec. 28.

He described Morgan Hughes as “a bright, strong woman” who “will be sorely missed.”

Morgan Hughes recently graduated from “hair school,” she wrote in a September post on her Facebook page, which also includes photos of her beaming in a wedding dress.

She and her husband, Sam Hughes, married in 2023, KUTV reported.

KSL TV reported that their twins came six weeks early and were in the NICU as of Dec. 30. The outlet said Morgan Hughes developed postpartum cardiomyopathy, which is an uncommon kind of heart failure, according to the American Heart Association.

A GoFundMe page set up by a relative described Morgan Hughes’ death as “unimaginable.”

“She was a loving daughter, sister, wife and friend. She has a beautiful smile and was so excited to be a mom. We know she will be with her babies in spirit as they continue on in life with their father and all their families,” the GoFundMe post said.
