Man assaults kids on e-bikes, then tries to hit one with his vehicle, Arizona cops say
A 52-year-old man assaulted kids on e-bikes, then tried to hit another one with his vehicle on an Arizona street, police said.
An officer responded at about 4:30 p.m. Dec. 27 to an area in Scottsdale, the city police department said in a probable cause statement.
Callers reported someone had “beat up a kid on an e-bike and fled,” police said.
A short time later, police said they contacted Richard Davidson of Fountain Hills in his SUV.
Davidson told authorities he was driving with his son when he saw children on e-bikes riding in and out of traffic, so he “took care of it” by taking their phones, police said.
He wanted to contact their parents, police said.
Police said Davidson was seen removing an e-bike from the road before chasing a child until they fell, then grabbed their phone.
He then approached another child on an e-bike, police said, and forced them onto the ground and stole their phone.
One of the children tried to call the police before their phone was stolen, police said.
Davidson then drove off and was seen attempting to hit another child in a lane, police said.
His child was in the SUV with him and witnessed everything that happened, police said.
Davidson was arrested and charged with robbery, aggravated assault of a minor, criminal damage, reckless interference, disorderly conduct, preventing the use of a telephone during an emergency and reckless driving.
Scottsdale is in the Phoenix metro area.
