A 3-month-old boy’s “unexpected” death in a Kentucky hotel left his family with an “unfillable void,” according to police and family.

The infant drowned in a bathtub on New Year’s Day in a Louisville hotel, police said in an email to McClatchy News.

First responders attempted lifesaving measures upon arrival, but he died at the scene, Louisville police said.

The baby was identified by his sister as Ki’arri through a GoFundMe.

Officials did not share what led up to Ki’arri’s death, but his sister, who wasn’t staying in the hotel when the drowning occurred, told WKLY that the boy’s mom fell asleep while holding him in the bath.

“The grief we are experiencing is indescribable, and our hearts are shattered,” his sister wrote in a GoFundMe. “Ki’arri brought so much joy and light into our lives during his short time with us, and his absence leaves an unfillable void.”

Officials are continuing to investigate the infant’s death.
