It’s like a dramatic scene from a movie.

He falls to the floor and she screams,” Maryland Lottery officials said in a Jan. 14 news release.

Only, it’s not a movie.

It’s the scene from the living room of an Anne Arundel County couple upon scanning their Millionaire’s Club ticket and realizing they’ve won a life-changing prize.

“Neither of us could believe it,” the husband told lottery officials. “We were yelling, pacing around the room, bumping into each other, bumping into furniture. It was chaotic.”

Shrouded in doubt, the couple “checked and rechecked and scanned and rescanned the $20 scratch-off,” lottery officials said.

Finally, their doubt subsided, and they were certain they won $1 million.

The husband bought the “ticket as his part of a unique family tradition,” lottery officials said.

“There’s an important day in our lives that we celebrate by buying each other a handful of scratch tickets,” he told lottery officials. “I added Millionaire’s Club to the tickets I bought for her because of the million-dollar prize.”

Turns out, it was a good addition.

Anne Arundel County is about a 30-mile drive south from Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
