A man was quail hunting in Arizona when he heard gunshots and found his son-in-law wounded, deputies said.

The incident happened before 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, in Yucca, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

The two men were hunting for quail along Alamo Road near milepost 8, deputies said.

At one point, the 44-year-old son-in-law went ahead of his father-in-law.

That’s when the father-in-law heard five to six gunshots and then yelling for help, deputies said.

He drove to his injured son-in-law and found him lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his leg, deputies said.

The hunter put a tourniquet around his leg and drove him to Interstate 40 where first responders met them.

The injured man was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Las Vegas, deputies said.

Deputies said the father-in-law didn’t see anyone else in the area at the time.

Detectives investigated the area where the shooting happened and conducted a search warrant on a nearby property where they seized evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and no one has been arrested as of the afternoon of Jan. 28.

Yucca is an unincorporated community in northwestern Arizona. It’s about a 130-mile drive southeast from Las Vegas.
