A Missouri lottery player was surprised to see an “instant win symbol” when she scratched off her ticket, but she was later shocked to learn the total amount of her prize.

“I thought, ‘OK, I won $5,’” the player recalled after revealing the first “instant win symbol,” she told Missouri lottery officials, according to a Jan. 29 news release.

The player continued scratching off her “Smokin’ Hot Cash” ticket and saw an array of the same symbol. She continued to assume each spot was worth $5.

But each spot, according to lottery officials, was worth $5,000, not $5. The woman’s total prize added up to $100,000.

“I feel so blessed,” she said as she reminisced on sharing the news with her husband and daughter.

With her winnings, she plans to help her dad and assist her children in paying off their cars, she said.

She purchased the ticket from Brumby Sports Stop in Eldon.

Eldon is about a 155-mile drive southeast from Kansas City.
