Husband left ‘astonished’ over big Maryland lottery win. ‘Honey, you need to come here’
When a Maryland man buys lottery tickets, he has a set routine.
He doesn’t check his tickets right away but instead waits until he has a pile of them, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Feb. 12 news release.
The man recently decided it was time to check his stack of eight tickets, which included a $3 Loteria scratch-off, lottery officials said.
While the first four were not winners, the fifth had a $10 prize and another had a $30 win, lottery officials said.
“All that was left was the Loteria game, which revealed a top prize of $30,000,” lottery officials said.
The man was “astonished.”
“I checked them again,” the Anne Arundel County man told lottery officials.
He got the same results.
“Honey, you need to come here,” he said as he called his wife over from the kitchen.
His wife, though, was unsure of what the ticket meant and thought it said they “could win” $30,000.
The husband still wasn’t convinced of the big win.
After heading to a nearby 7-Eleven, he had the clerk scan his ticket, lottery officials said.
Sure enough, the clerk confirmed the player had won $30,000.
“(The clerk) was happier than I was,” the man told lottery officials.
The man cashed his two other winning tickets, bought some ramen and brought it home to his wife.
“I came home with $17” and a winning ticket worth $30,000, he said.
This is the couple’s biggest lottery win to date.
“We hit 50 bucks a while back and thought it was a big deal,” the husband said.
Anne Arundel County is about a 30-mile drive south from Baltimore.
