$1 lottery ticket balloons into huge prize for woman at North Carolina store
A North Carolina woman invested a frugal $1 in a N.C. Education Lottery ticket, and it paid off huge dividends, according to the state lottery.
Angela Morrison got the Cash 5 ticket at the Speedway on Church Street in Laurinburg and even bother to fret over the numbers.
She let a terminal pick them for her, lottery officials said in a news release.
The tactic worked and the ticket matched all five numbers, winning her a $110,000 jackpot.
“The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598,” the lottery noted.
Morrison picked up the prize Wednesday, Feb. 12, at lottery headquarters in Raleigh, and it came to $78,925 after federal and state tax withholdings, officials said.
She didn’t reveal her plans for the money.
Cash 5 is a game with a rolling jackpot that starts at $100,000 and keeps growing until someone matches all five numbers.
