Man fakes seizure as partners steal $4,300 puppies from pet store, Colorado cops say
A man who reportedly faked a seizure to distract pet store employees so his partners could steal two puppies has been arrested, Colorado officials said.
Three men walked into the Perfect Pets store in Centennial a “few minutes apart” from one another on Feb. 23, according to a news release from Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
One of the men asked a staff member about two bulldog puppies that were priced at $4,299 each, officials said.
The puppies were in the back of the store in a locked pen, per the release.
That’s when one of the men faked a seizure while another went to the back and snatched the two puppies, deputies said.
While running toward the front of the store, the man was tackled and dropped the puppies but got up and grabbed them, officials said. He fled the store with the third man in a gold Cadillac Escalade believed to be driven by a female, according to deputies.
The 37-year-old man accused of faking the seizure was arrested and charged with theft, conspiracy to commit a felony, and drug possession, officials said.
One of the stolen puppies was returned to the pet store after a woman told deputies she bought the dog from a street vendor for $1,500, according to a Facebook post.
Officials said one of the men was wearing a black coat, and the other was wearing a blue and white beanie hat with brown hair, officials said.
A description of the female driver was not provided as the car had “heavily tinted windows,” officials said.
