A California puppy is recovering from emergency surgery after more than 30 items were removed from her digestive tract.

Luna, a 7-month-old Bernese mountain dog, was rushed to the emergency vet when her family noticed she was “vomiting and had a firm distended abdomen,” according to a Feb. 25 Instagram post from the Corona Animal Emergency Center.

Dr. Jenny, who performed the surgery, said what the team found in her stomach and intestines was “jaw-dropping,” according to the post.

Luna had eaten 24 socks, three hair ties, one shoe insert, a onesie and other “miscellaneous cloth pieces”, veterinary staff said.

“Luna’s name has officially been changed to Maytag because she’s clearly a dryer,” one person said in the comments.

“Against all odds, Luna pulled through and is now wagging her tail again!” staff said. “She’s one special pup, and we’re honored to have been part of her story.”

The Corona Animal Emergency Center issued a reminder to pet owners about possible gastrointestinal emergencies. “If you notice vomiting, lethargy, or a firm abdomen, don’t wait—act fast and contact your vet,” they said in the post..

Corona is about a 50-mile drive southeast from Los Angeles.
