Man asked to leave kid’s birthday party, then he stabs host to death, AZ officials say
A 30-year-old man has been accused of fatally stabbing the host of a kid’s birthday party, Arizona officials said.
In January, Hunter Strawbridge was at a birthday party hosted by Jake Carbonell when he threatened a female family member with a knife, according to a Feb. 26 news release by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Strawbridge was asked to leave, officials said.
Once outside, Strawbridge and Carbonell got into a fight, and Strawbridge stabbed him in the neck, prosecutors said.
Two others tried to intervene and were also stabbed, officials said. Their wounds were serious but not fatal.
Carbonell was sent to the hospital and died of his injuries, officials said.
Officers didn’t specify Carbonell and Strawbridge’s relationship.
Strawbridge was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and tampering with physical evidence, prosecutors said.
He’s being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to reappear in court in June for his trial, officials said.
Maricopa County is about a 30-mile drive southwest of Phoenix.
