73-year-old uses lottery winnings to buy new Michigan ticket. Then came ‘tears of joy’
Small wins led to a huge payout for one Michigan Lottery player who used her $10 winnings to buy a ticket worth $500,000.
The winner, a 73-year-old woman who chose to stay anonymous, said she initially won coupons for lottery tickets through Michigan’s Spin to Win game, according to a Michigan Lottery news release. She used those coupons on tickets worth $10, at which she took to a Party Store location in Taylor.
“When I stopped at the store, I asked the clerk what was lucky, and he told me that the 20X game was new, so I chose that ticket,” she said in the release. “When I scratched it off and scanned it with my Lottery app, confetti started flying and I cried tears of joy.”
When she visited Michigan Lottery headquarters, she said she plans to save the $500,000 prize, according to officials.
“I feel like this was heaven sent,” she said. “It feels so good to know me and my family will be alright.”
Taylor is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Detroit.
