$1 million lottery winner can’t wait to share the news. ‘Had to wake my daughter up’
A lottery player scored a $1 million prize — and couldn’t wait to share the good news.
“I had to wake my daughter up to tell her,” Jeffrey Walker told the North Carolina Education Lottery.
The lucky dad hit the jackpot after he stopped at a Sun-Do convenience store in Lumberton, a roughly 95-mile drive southwest from Raleigh. While there, he bought a scratch-off ticket for the Millionaire Maker game.
Walker was elated when he learned his $30 ticket won the game’s top prize, lottery officials wrote in a March 7 news release.
“That’s a real good feeling,” the lucky winner said. “This is a true blessing.”
Walker had dreamed of buying a new home and said the win came right on time.
“This will really come in handy,” Walker told lottery officials. “It’s coming at the perfect time.”
Walker, who lives in Lumberton, took his prize as a lump sum of $600,000. He kept $430,508 after taxes.
It’s not the first time a North Carolina lottery winner has rushed to tell someone about their jackpot win. Another lucky player checked her ticket and immediately called her daughter, McClatchy News reported in December.
