Recently, a Maryland lottery player’s favorite game “has been letting her down.”

But even still, her unwavering spirit has remained, Maryland Lottery officials said in a March 10 news release.

“I didn’t want to give up on it, you know?” the Baltimore woman told lottery officials.

She bought her usual $10 Mega Multiplier ticket last weekend, lottery officials said.

“Mega Multiplier has been very lucky for me,” she told lottery officials, adding that she’s had “lots of wins, even big ones.”

This time, though, luck wasn’t in her favor, and she started to leave the Cockeysville gas station.

But then, lottery officials said, she started to have “second thoughts.”

“I stopped and turned back to the vending machine and looked for one more ticket to play,” she said in the release.

While the woman looked for another Fast Play ticket, a different game caught her eye — Casino Royale Slots.

After buying her $10 ticket, she scanned it and “an unfamiliar message” popped onscreen, lottery officials said.

“I assumed that it meant I’d won a good prize, but I never thought it would be the top prize,” the woman said in the release.

Upon taking a closer look at her ticket when she got home, the woman noticed one of her spins “had three cash symbols,” she told lottery officials.

She looked up what the sequence meant and learned she had won the game’s progressive jackpot of $248,208, lottery officials said.

“I just closed my eyes and started thanking God,” the winner said, per the release.

She told lottery officials the win is “a tremendous blessing.”

“I can now be completely debt-free and have a comfortable retirement,” she told lottery officials.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
