Lottery player had ‘some luck’ over 15 years, but ‘nothing like’ latest Maryland prize
A loyal lottery player who has played each week for over 15 years is celebrating her biggest win to date, Maryland officials said.
She “scratched her way to a $50,000 second-tier prize on the popular MONOPOLY X50 instant ticket” — and chose the nickname “Scratcher for Life” to claim her win, lottery officials said in a March 11 news release.
The winner remembers the fateful day more than 15 years ago when she first discovered “her love of lottery games when she received a scratch-off as a holiday gift and won several hundred dollars,” officials said. “That win sparked a passion that has turned into a weekly hobby, often bringing smaller prizes her way.”
And while she admits she’s “had some luck over the years,” those wins were “nothing like this,” she told officials in the release.
She bought the $10 winning instant ticket at her favorite store, Lucky’s Deli & Market, during her lunch break and scratched the tickets at home later on, officials said.
She was so “stunned” and “in disbelief” to see the $50,000 prize that “she scanned the instant ticket several times” on the lottery app to confirm it, officials said.
She’ll use the windfall to pay some bills and “tuck the rest away for a rainy day, citing economic uncertainty as a reason to be cautious,” officials said.
