Pub-goer plays the lottery and wins record-breaking prize in Michigan. ‘Overwhelming’
A Michigan man cut his bar trip short when he won a record-setting lottery prize, the Michigan Lottery said.
The 54-year-old player, who wanted to remain anonymous, won $677,141 from the Club Keno The Jack game by matching nine numbers — 7, 14, 42, 44, 52, 61, 62, 63 and 69 — on his March 2 ticket.
“I don’t usually play The Jack, but when I saw how high it had gotten I decided I better give it a shot,” he told lottery officials in a March 13 news release.
He bought his ticket at JP’s Trolley Stop, a bar in Taylor about a 15-mile drive southwest from Detroit.
“When I checked the ticket on my phone and saw I won, I immediately left the bar,” he said. “It was overwhelming and emotional to win such a huge amount of money!”
The man said he plans to take a vacation, make some home renovations and invest the remaining prize money, according to lottery officials.
His winnings exceeded the previous Club Keno The Jack record of $503,254, which was set in August 2023. That winning ticket was also purchased at a bar, Fletcher’s Pub #2 in Kalamazoo.
