Mom left toddler in car in 6-degree weather for hotel rendezvous, Alaska cops say
A 38-year-old woman was arrested after she left her toddler in the car in freezing weather to have “a romantic rendezvous” at a hotel in Alaska, troopers said.
The woman was inside the hotel in Healy for a little more than a half-hour before coming back to check on the 20-month-old, Alaska state troopers said in a March 19 dispatch.
By then, first responders had taken the child to an EMS/fire facility after a good Samaritan called 911, troopers said. The child received treatment for the early stages of hypothermia, according to troopers.
The mother was arrested on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child, troopers said.
The good Samaritan called 911 at about 8:45 p.m. March 18 after hearing the child crying in a car in a hotel/bar parking lot, according to troopers.
The car was turned off, a window was partly open and it was 6 degrees Fahrenheit outside, troopers said.
Medics took the child out of the car and provided treatment, according to troopers, who added that “no parent or guardian was immediately found for the child.”
Troopers investigated and determined the Fairbanks woman “had left her child in the car to have a romantic rendezvous with a guest at the hotel,” according to the dispatch.
Security video showed she was inside the hotel for about 35 minutes, troopers said.
Healy is about a 110-mile drive south from Fairbanks.
