Hilaria Baldwin responds after fans call her ‘rude’ for viral ‘manterrupting’ moment
Hilaria Baldwin is addressing her critics in a light-hearted way.
The 41-year-old wife of actor Alec Baldwin, 66, has received a whirlwind of criticism since snapping at her husband in a March 11 interview with Extra at the grand opening of Planet Hollywood in New York City.
While walking the red carpet, the couple were asked about the possibility of a second season of their new reality show “The Baldwins,” which premiered Feb. 23.
Alec Baldwin joked that the show should be called “The Hilaria Show” before his wife gave a more honest answer.
“I think we’re going to see how it feels to be out there,” Hilaria Baldwin said before her husband interrupted her — twice.
“Oh my god, when I’m talking, you’re not talking,” she said, turning to Alec Baldwin.
“No, when I’m talking, you’re not talking,” she continued. “This is why, yes, we’ll have to just cut him out of the show.”
Hilaria Baldwin continued to answer her question as Alec Baldwin removed himself from the interview to talk to someone else.
He later returned to the interview, but the awkward exchanges continued.
“Oh, my God, stop. You’re annoying me. Stop. It’s not cute,” Hilaria Baldwin said after accusing her husband of distracting her while she was speaking.
Once the video was uploaded to the internet, critics were quick to call Hilaria Baldwin’s behavior “rude” and “disrespectful” toward Alec Baldwin.
“She is very rude to her husband in front of everyone,” one TikTok user commented under the video, while another added, “She was incredibly rude. If that happens in public, how is it in private?”
On March 19, the couple took to Instagram to defend themselves.
In the video, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin are mouthing along to an audio clip of the interview before Hilaria chimes in.
“And that is called, what’s the word of the day?” she asks her husband, who replies, “Manterrupting.”
Hilaria Baldwin goes on to explain that “manterrupting,” an informal word used when a man interrupts a woman, can either be positive, negative or an example of “correctile dysfunction.”
“The whole point is that we interrupt each other all the time or sometimes our kids interrupt,” Hilaria Baldwin says as one of her seven children ironically knocks on their bedroom door.
“Okay, so now that we cleared all of that up,” Hilaria Baldwin concludes, “give me a kiss.”
Some fans found the exchange hilarious, while others weren’t buying the explanation.
One critic commented, “I’m sorry but you made him look like a child on national tv,” while another one wrote, “Sounds like she is treating him like one of seven kids.”
In a separate clip posted an hour later, Hilaria Baldwin replies to a comment that read, “She would be nothing without him!”
“I’m having a lot of women tell me they’ll treat you better than I’d treat you — do you want to make a change? So you can talk more?” she whispers to Alec Baldwin as they cuddle in bed.
“Yeah, I think this isn’t working,” Alec Baldwin jokes in return.
Hilaria and Alec Baldwin have been married since 2012 and share seven children together, including Carmen, 11, Rafael, 9, Leonardo, 8, Romeo, 6, Eduardo, 4, María Lucía, 4, and Ilaria, 2.
New episodes of “The Baldwins” air on TLC every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.
