Dog trapped in over 10-foot deep sinkhole for days. Then AZ utility worker hears barks
After an Arizona dog fell down a more than 10-feet deep sinkhole, it would be days before he was rescued.
A utility worker was working on a Prescott Valley property when he nearly fell into the deep hole Friday, March 28, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Suddenly, “he heard barking,” deputies said.
“I looked down there,” the worker told an animal control officer in a video shared by deputies.
And, “much to his surprise,” he noticed a small dog, deputies said.
“That little guy’s stuck,” the worker said in the video.
“Oh my goodness,” the officer said. “Hey, buddy. Hey. We’ll get you out here.”
The officer borrowed a nearby ladder and climbed down after placing it down the hole, deputies said.
Slowly, the officer climbed back up the ladder with one hand clutching the small dog, the video shows.
Facebook users were quick to commend the officer for his rescue efforts.
“Oh my gosh buddy. How did you fall in that ditch,” one user wrote. “Thank you beyond words and measure for saving him.”
The dog, who was trapped in the hole for two days, appeared to be OK aside from possible injuries to his front legs, according to deputies.
Because the worker couldn’t find the dog’s owner, he took him to be medically assessed, deputies said.
“Poor little guy,” a Facebook user wrote. “I’m glad it had a happy ending.”
Prescott Valley is about a 90-mile drive north from Phoenix.
