A lottery player tried her luck on a ticket — and hit the jackpot in Florida.

Lenora Carpenter won $900,000 after she stopped at a Publix grocery store in Brooksville. While there, she bought a ticket for the Jackpot Triple Play game, the Florida Lottery wrote in an April 2 news release.

Carpenter opted for the Quick Pick option, meaning a lottery machine randomly chose at least some of her ticket numbers. The ticket matched all the numbers picked in the Dec. 20 drawing, leading to the life-changing win, McClatchy News reported.

Jackpot Triple Play is a rolling jackpot game that offers tickets starting at $1. To score the top prize, a person’s ticket must match the six numbers picked in a drawing, according to game rules.

Carpenter chose to take her prize as a lump sum of $534,009.60. She lives in Brooksville, a roughly 50-mile drive north from Tampa.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
