Powerball player just misses $66M jackpot in Illinois — but still wins big
A lucky Powerball player in Illinois won $50,000, just missing the $66 million jackpot, lottery officials said.
The ticket matched four of five winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, April 9, according to Illinois Lottery.
The player bought the winning ticket online using the Illinois Lottery App, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News by email April 10.
No one hit the grand prize, so the jackpot has grown to an estimated $82 million, with a cash prize of $39.6 million, for the next drawing, Saturday, April 12, the national Powerball site said.
The winning numbers were 4, 29, 37, 55 and 67, with a Powerball of 10, the lottery said. The Power Play multiplier was 4x.
More than 327,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the U.S. also won prizes ranging from $4 to $50,000 the lottery said.
What to know about Powerball
To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
