A lottery player’s stop at a convenience store for bottled water ended in a big win, Maryland officials said.

The Silver Spring resident bought two bottles of water at a 7-Eleven in Rockville and decided to buy a $10 scratch-off ticket with the cash he had in his pocket, Maryland Lottery officials said in an April 10 news release.

He scratched off the Monopoly X50 ticket in the store and learned he’d won $50,000, lottery officials said.

“I had two bottles of Perrier and I was shaking,” the player is quoted as saying.

He “considers himself blessed” by the win, lottery officials said, and he plans to spread that feeling around.

He’ll give away much of his prize money, according to lottery officials.

“I have a few people in mind to bless,” the player said, per the release. “It is better to give than receive.”

Five other $50,000 Monopoly X50 prizes still are unclaimed, and so are five $100,000 top prizes, lottery officials said.

Silver Spring is about a 35-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
