Woman found covered in blood after 911 hang-up call, UT officials say. Ex charged
A man is facing multiple charges after a 911 hang-up led to the discovery of his ex-girlfriend injured and “covered in blood,” officials said.
Ryan Wayne Murray, 53, has been charged with rape, object rape, forcible sodomy, aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office said in an April 21 news release.
Defense attorney information wasn’t immediately available April 22.
The woman said Murray called her and reported being suicidal, according to prosecutors.
“She went to the hotel room where he was, but when she tried to leave, he blocked the door and then allegedly physically and sexually assaulted her,” prosecutors said.
Police found the woman after following up on an aborted 911 call on April 11, prosecutors said. An officer from the West Jordan Police Department “called back what seemed to be an accidental hang-up 911 call,” and Murray answered, prosecutors said.
“He told the officer everything was okay, but the officer” heard a woman in the background saying that wasn’t the case, prosecutors said.
“When police arrived at the location, the responding officer saw a female lying on a bed with several injuries to her face, mouth, lips, and head, and she was covered in blood,” according to prosecutors.
The woman had multiple eye socket fractures requiring surgery, according to a court filing.
The woman told police that Murray punched her multiple times in the face, twice strangled her to unconsciousness, and sexually assaulted her, the court filing said.
West Jordan is about a 14-mile drive south from Salt Lake City.
