Man gave teen fentanyl, then abandoned her on Alaska trail as she OD’d, cops say
A man accused of giving fentanyl to a 16-year-old and then abandoning her on an Alaska trail as she overdosed has been arrested months after the girl was found dead, officials said.
Sean Mobley, 45, from Wasilla, is facing charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and first-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance in the death of Alena Toennis, the Alaska Bureau of Investigation said in a May 1 dispatch.
McClatchy News reached out to Mobley’s attorney May 8 and was awaiting a response.
Toennis, from Wasilla, was found dead the morning of Nov. 15 “on a powerline trail in” the city, officials said.
Her death was deemed suspicious, and the investigations bureau took on the case, announcing Mobley’s April 30 arrest following “a thorough investigation.”
In an online obituary, Toennis was described as “headstrong and determined to make the most of whatever time she had in life.”
While she was born in Utah, she lived most of her life in Alaska, according to the obituary, which said she “was loved by many and will be remembered by her fiery personality and readiness to face whatever new challenge awaited her.”
Wasilla is about a 45-mile drive northeast from Anchorage.
