Five minors attack family eating at Burger King, beat pregnant mom, NM cops say
A group of five minors have been charged in the attack on a pregnant woman and her family, New Mexico officials said.
On July 2, Sante Fe officers responded to a Burger King, where a pregnant mom, her young child and the child’s father were eating, according to a Facebook post by the police department.
The group, reportedly armed with a gun and knife, attacked the father, child and woman, leading her to go to the hospital to receive treatment for an injury to her eye after being punched and kicked, police said.
The caller told officers the group had run off following the attack, officials said.
When officers arrived, they found the five juveniles, ranging from ages 12 to 16, and one 19-year-old, officials said.
Although the suspects were unarmed when officers found them, the gun was later found in a nearby backyard, police said.
Two of the suspects had active arrest warrants and were booked into the San Juan Juvenile Detention Facility, officials said.
The 19-year-old was found to not be involved in the crime and is currently not facing charges, police said.
Officers didn’t specify what led to the attack.
The five juveniles are facing charges of indecent exposure, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, tampering with evidence, child endangerment, battery, unlawful carrying of a firearm for a person under 19, minor under the influence, and disorderly conduct, police said.
Santa Fe is about a 60-mile drive northeast from Albuquerque.
