Baby bald eagle crashed into power lines and injured wing in CO. ‘There’s hope’
A baby bald eagle was injured in Colorado last month after it crashed into power lines and hurt its wing, officials said.
They didn’t say how the resident eaglet from Standley Lake Regional Park collided with the power lines — whether it was flying or fell out of the nest — but the damage to its wing was “significant,” park officials said on Facebook at the time.
Park rangers worked with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to rescue the baby bird and take it to a rehabilitation facility, the park said in the June 25 post.
Despite the serious wing injury, there was “cautious optimism for a full recovery,” officials said in the post.
Then in a July 21 update, officials said the eaglet was recovering even better than they had anticipated.
“Great news from Standley Lake, the injured eaglet is alive and doing well!” the park said. “It’s still in rehabilitation, but the wing is healing nicely, and there’s hope for recovery. We’ll keep you posted as we continue to cheer it on!”
The park had two resident eaglets this year, it said in a previous post on Facebook.
Standley Lake Regional Park is about a 20-mile drive northwest from Denver.
