Four adults and two children escaped a boat fire by jumping into the water, Utah deputies said.

The group of six was rescued by other boaters in the area after their Malibu caught fire Aug. 2, the Rich County Sheriff’s Office said in a post that day on Facebook.

The fire happened on Bear Lake, about three-quarters of a mile from the Bear Lake State Park Marina, deputies said. The marina is on the west side of the large lake that sits in both Utah and Idaho.

It’s unclear what started the fire, but officials “are investigating the possibility that gas fumes were in the engine compartment,” deputies said.

No one was reported hurt in the incident, according to deputies, who said the children had life jackets on and the adults donned theirs in the water.

Rich County includes Randolph, which is about a 115-mile drive northeast from Salt Lake City.
