A man pushed his wife to safety, then was fatally hit by an accused drunk driver, Utah police said.

On Sept. 3, a couple was walking on the sidewalk when the man saw a truck driving toward them, according to a Facebook post by Springville officers.

The man pushed his wife out of the way and was struck by the truck, police said.

He was taken to the hospital for his injuries but died, officers said.

The woman was unharmed, police said.

Officers smelled alcohol coming from the driver, identified as Travis Mcintyre, at the scene, so they performed a DUI investigation, police said.

His blood alcohol concentration was 0.307, or six times the legal limit, according to court documents obtained by KSTU and KUTV.

He was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and DUI, among other charges, police said.

Mcintyre was booked into jail and is being held without bail, KSTU reported.

Springville is about a 50-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.
