When a Maryland father hastily called his daughter and told her she needed to come see her mother, she worried.

Startled, the daughter asked what was wrong with her mother, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Sept. 16 news release.

It turns out, her mother “nearly fell on on the floor” — after checking her $5 Cash Blast scratch-off ticket she bought at a Dunkirk grocery store, lottery officials said.

She had won $50,000.

“I’m very happy for my mom,” the daughter told lottery officials.

The lottery player scratched her ticket at home upon returning from a shopping trip and realized she had won big, lottery officials said.

“I screamed and said I can’t believe this is happening,” she said. “It looks like I won!”

Her calm and collected husband, though, needed to verify the win for himself.

“Let me see that ticket,” he insisted, the player told lottery officials.

Sure enough, the husband confirmed his wife’s big prize.

The woman told lottery officials, in all her excitement, she hasn’t given much thought to how she will spend her winnings.

Dunkirk is about a 45-mile drive south from Baltimore.
